Back in mid-August, I got approval at church to form our own chapter of Unitarian Universalist Animal Ministry, a national organization under the umbrella of UUA programs. I had recently learned of UUAM’s existence and was delighted. It was, after all, the UU 7th priniciple, which promotes respect for and ethical treatment of our environment and the interdependent web of life, meaning animals, trees, all of us that comprise The Earth Family (my explanation of the 7th principle, not the official wording) that first brought me through the door of the UU church. "The Earth Family" is my coined phrase ... I’d used it many, many times when presenting my humane education program to clubs, churches, civic groups, schools, over a ten-year period.
Our UUAM chapter is now a month old and we have exciting plans for educational, hands-on volunteering and animal advocacy. I’m really grateful to have this opportunity to work for the greater good with a group of wonderful, impassioned people.
